Jack Brag's self-titled album gets a wonderful review from The Aquarium Weekly in it's April 7, 2009 issue:

"Jack Brag is a band that has upheld that murky time tunnel of mysterious Psychedelic Furs-meets-The Chameleons genre, mixing Curtis Ian-styled vocals with Peter Bucked jangling guitars and Robert Smith fringed string arrangements, all burning bright within their poppy punk wave sound and covered with a curious outer shell of deliciously dark chamber music influence..."

Jack Brag receives glowing reviews for it's track on the new album, the Winter Hours tribute album, A Few Uneven Rhymes:

Phil Rainone, JerseyBeat, says "One of Winter Hours signature songs, “Hyacinth Girl,” is covered by Jack Brag with Deena Shoshkes (of the Cucumbers) and given a slight reworking, with male/female harmonies, skittering drums, flourishing guitar, and solid bass lines could make the song into an underground hit all over again! See the full review here: "A Few Uneven Rhymes - A Tribute to Winter Hours (mainmanrecords.com).

Ken Shane, The Aquarian, says "The Winter Hours classic “Hyacinth Girl” is beautifully interpreted by Jack Brag with Deena Shoskes." See the full review here: Various Artists: A Few Uneven Rhymes: A Tribute To Winter Hours

“The first thing likely to strike you are the dramatic & darkly tinged lead vocals, set among the backdrop of classic Pop hooks that bring the various likes of early Blondie, Talking Heads or Australia’s The Triffids to mind. All of which doesn't do justice to the quirky & melodic delights herein. Propelled by muscular bass lines, laced with of all things, cello, one can hear elements of "chamber pop" along with handfuls of VU grit. Though the lead vocalist touches on Jim Morrison territory in terms of his baritone, perhaps The Triffid's David McComb's more apt comparison, if you're in need of any. Things start off with the rollicking "Those Days" and end with the darkly painted rocker, "Black Forest". In between, are fine turns on pop balladry as evidenced on "Mona Lisa Smile" & the stunning, "She Waits". Where so many bands are cynical throwbacks to a bygone era, Jack Brag maintain an innocence & honesty rarely found in today's oft contrived Indy scene. That said, folks who dig the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah's or Clap Your Hands & Say Yeah--won't be disappointed with these guys.”

Jack Brag performed live for the first time at Fat Baby, a lower east side venue said to have the feel of a downtown NYC speakeasy. The band has been working hard on their debut album, which is scheduled to release later this year, but wanted to introduce the Jack Brag sound to the local scene. The event was well received by guests, who have been expressing their curiosity in previewing the album before its completion, and resulted in an encore performance of "Those Days," an upbeat pop-rock number that will kick off their self-titled debut album.

Jack Brag is taking part in a tribute album for a native New Jersey band called Winter Hours. The project is being organized by WBLJ, an independent radio station in Central  NJ.

Winter Hours was a north NJ based band from the early 80s that disbanded in 1991. They released a few indie records and before being signed to Chrysalis Records for their one major label release in 1989. They disbanded due to numerous personal and health reasons, but their sound has influenced and inspired numerous bands in the region.

Sadly, 2008 marks the 5th anniversary of lead singer Joe Marques' death. The album will celebrate the wonderful music that he created with Michael Carlucci, Bob P, Bob M, and their collection of drummers.

Jack Brag will be recording “Hyacinth Girl” with lead singer of The Cucumbers, Deena Shoskes. The Winter Hours tribute album can be purchased through the Jack Brag Store
